Our story – from electric motors to emotions
Built for innovation – and reimagined today
The listed Motorwerk Berlin was built as the premises of the Ziehl-Abegg Electricity Company, founded in 1910 by Emil Ziehl and Eduard Abegg. During this era of technological breakthrough, Emil Ziehl developed groundbreaking special electric motors, which were manufactured until the Second World War in the former motor production hall dating from 1921. This hall gives today's Motorwerk Berlin its name.
The first airships to cross the ocean were equipped with Ziehl-Abegg converters. Later, the F.T. generators, also developed by Ziehl-Abegg, were used in all Zeppelin airships and Lufthansa aircraft.
