The Motorwerk Berlin event venue presents itself as a versatile stage for events of all kinds. With 3,500 square meters of indoor space and an additional 5,000 square meters of outdoor area, it offers room for events with up to 1,500 visitors, but can also be ideally configured for events with 200 or 500 people. The industrial character creates a distinctive atmosphere that blends seamlessly with modern architecture and clean lines.

 

Thanks to modular room concepts, variable setups, and high-quality technical equipment, every idea can be precisely realized – from conferences and meetings to exhibitions, get-togethers, fashion shows, product launches and shows, as well as exclusive private events. State-of-the-art lighting, sound, and media technology, along with a multi-redundant fiber optic connection directly to the backbones with 10 Mbps duplex, enable professional productions of the highest standard.

 

Motorwerk Berlin is a naturally lit venue – the ambiance can be flexibly designed: all windows can be individually or completely closed within seconds using IP-controlled technology to block out light. This allows for maximum freedom in creative lighting concepts, stage productions, and immersive event formats.

 

The Motorwerk venue has been certified as a sustainable location with the highest possible "Leader" rating by Sustainable Meetings Berlin. The certification is fully and internationally recognized by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).

Motorwerk Berlin is an unconventional event venue. It's a symbiosis of contrasts: old industrial architecture meets state-of-the-art infrastructure. Where electric motors were produced 100 years ago, cutting-edge events now take place – live streaming of product presentations, product launches, or e-sports challenges, conferences and meetings with global connectivity to data centers or corporate headquarters. At Motorwerk, there are no limits to communication.

The centerpiece of Motorwerk Berlin is the large hall on the ground floor, boasting remarkable dimensions. Measuring 90 meters in length, it encompasses a total indoor area of approximately 3500 square meters, thus offering ideal conditions for fashion shows with up to 1000 people, get-togethers for up to 1500 people, seated dinners for 300 to 1000 people, product presentations for 200 or 300 people or more, or trade fairs and exhibitions for several thousand people.

The engine plant is powered entirely by electricity from renewable sources (hydropower). The CO2 emissions generated by heating, as well as those from waste disposal, are offset by our partner Atmosfair. Corresponding certificates can be provided. Therefore, the engine plant can be considered a CO2-neutral location.

On both sides of the hall there is an outdoor area with a total area of approximately 5000 square meters.

The main hall of Motorwerk offers space for a plenary session for 800 to 1200 people.

HISTORY

The listed Motorwerk Berlin building was constructed as the factory site of the Ziehl-Abegg electricity company, founded in 1910 by Emil Ziehl and Eduard Abegg. During this era of technological advancement, Emil Ziehl developed pioneering special electric motors, which were manufactured in the former motor production hall, dating from 1921, until the Second World War. This hall gives the present-day Motorwerk Berlin its name.

The first airships to cross the ocean were equipped with converters from Ziehl-Abegg. Later, the F.-T. generators, also developed by Ziehl-Abegg, were used in all Zeppelin airships and Lufthansa aircraft.

Is Motorwerk Berlin an approved event venue?

Yes, Motorwerk is a permanently and fully approved event venue under the German Assembly Venues Ordinance (Versammlungsstättenverordnung). This means there's no need for cumbersome, expensive, and unpredictable individual permits from the relevant authorities.

 

How many guests fit in Motorwerk?

Up to 1,500 people, depending on the event format. Some examples from recent years: product presentations with 200–1,500 people, influencer events with 50–1,500 people, gala dinners with 100–900 people, food truck markets with 300–1,500 people, training sessions, assemblies, staff meetings, internet meetings, workshops, international gatherings, and e-sports events.

Many events use the Motorwerk space in multiple ways: for a standing reception, an auditorium setup, and for breakouts or workshops.

Is Motorwerk suitable for streaming or hybrid events?

Yes. Professional streaming and hybrid-event technology is available, along with a stable fiber-optic connection to three redundant backbones. The fiber lines can be used both as an internet connection and for (live) broadcasting. Dedicated lines can be set up at short notice.

The adjacent outdoor areas are available for crew vehicles and logistics. Parking spaces in enclosed areas in the immediate neighborhood can be reserved by the organizer. There are also numerous free public parking spaces on public streets around Motorwerk.

Is there a fixed technical partner?

Our tenants are not bound to any particular technical partner. However, we're happy to help find an experienced technical partner.

 

What power connections are available?

Motorwerk has a connected capacity of 700 kVA. Several large power distributors are available with 16A, 32A, and 63A CEE connections. Smaller distribution units are also available.

 

Is there heating or air conditioning?

Yes, Motorwerk Berlin has 400 kW of heating capacity. Air conditioning can be activated at short notice; all the necessary fixtures are in place.

 

How high are the ceilings?

The hall has a ceiling height of around 12.5 meters in the middle, suitable for large installations and rigging.

 

Is there permanently installed technology?

Comprehensive basic technical equipment is available. Additional lighting, sound, and stage technology can be rented.

Is there Wi-Fi or LAN?

Motorwerk is connected via fiber optic to the backbones of three providers (COLT, 1&1 Versatel, Deutsche Telekom). 10-gigabit data rates are available at all times. A redundant internet connection is always in place, and dedicated lines can be set up at short notice.

The entire site is equipped with managed Wi-Fi that can support several thousand devices simultaneously.

 

Can vehicles drive into the hall?

Yes. Vehicle presentations and drive-ins are possible, thanks to the large gates and the fact that the floor has no basement beneath it. We're happy to provide our logistics plan with the relevant details. Up to 10 vehicles (or more) can easily fit.

 

Is there natural daylight?

Yes, the large hall has skylights running the entire 90-meter length. These can be closed individually or fully, made light-tight within seconds via IP control. This offers maximum freedom for daylight events, creative lighting concepts, stage productions, and immersive event formats. All additional event areas also have numerous windows and can be blacked out.

 

Are there backstage or makeup rooms?

Yes, there are several rooms that can be used as backstage and makeup rooms, as well as a production office. Two bathrooms (shower/WC) are directly connected to these rooms.

 

 

Logistics & Delivery

 

How does delivery work?

Deliveries can be made at ground level on the outdoor area reserved exclusively for this purpose, without external traffic. Access is permitted for trucks up to 40 tons. Vehicles can unload directly next to the hall doors and remain parked there. This means extremely short delivery routes.

 

Is storage space available?

Yes, internal areas are available for equipment, empties, and materials.

 

Can large stages be built?

Yes, thanks to the enormous load capacities, available height, very large hall doors, and open hall structure, extensive builds can be carried out.

 

 

Catering & Services

 

Is there a fixed caterer?

No, Motorwerk Berlin is not exclusively bound to a particular caterer. However, we're happy to help find an experienced catering partner.

 

Are there kitchen or prep areas?

Yes, there are large suitable production areas, including a catering prep room with stainless steel hygiene furniture and numerous high-voltage connections.

 

Is there a bar?

There are several permanently installed bars with water and power connections, equipped with stainless steel counters and display refrigerators. These can be used as needed.

Is seating available on site?

Basic seating with 720 theater-style chairs is available. Additional seating can be rented.

Several trams and buses stop around Motorwerk. The travel time from Alexanderplatz is approximately 15 minutes.

Yes, various hotels are located within 5–15 minutes.

 

Can the venue be booked together with hotel rooms?

We're happy to help you find suitable hotel rooms.

 

Can shuttle buses stop here?

Yes, based on our agreements with the police and authorities, and thanks to the no-parking zone directly in front of the entrance, shuttle buses can stop right at the door and let passengers get on and off comfortably.

 

 

History & Special Features

 

What is the history of Motorwerk?

Motorwerk is an original industrial building where the company Ziehl Abegg Elektrizitätsgesellschaft mbH was founded. Groundbreaking electric motors and fans were invented and built here over 100 years ago.

In the 1990s, Motorwerk — then known as "Die Halle" — was the birthplace of Berlin's techno scene. The first editions of Mayday took place here. DJs like Sven Väth, Westbam, Marusha, and others launched their international careers here.

 

What makes Motorwerk special?

The combination of industrial architecture, large floor space, height, technical infrastructure, and flexibility is unique. Motorwerk itself is not the organizer of events and therefore does not publish its own event calendar. Most events held here are private/closed events.

Thanks to a professional acoustics concept, Motorwerk Berlin offers excellent acoustic conditions. It's important that the technical requirements are observed by the equipping technical company.

 

Can events with different groups take place in parallel in the large hall?

Yes, several breakout groups can take place in parallel. We have developed acoustic solutions to make this possible.
